The Cobb County Water System reported two sewage overflows.

The first was an estimated 620 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on July 27.

The overflow, resulting from grease, occurred at 1430 Bentley Road in Marietta and discharged into a tributary to Rottenwood Creek.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on July 27 at 5:35 p.m. and the overflow was stopped on July 27 at 10:45 p.m.

Water System employees upon arrival observed a manhole spilling with the lid secured. The escaping sewage left an 8-foot by 10-foot spill area entering a storm drain that empties into the tributary. After using a jet machine to unstop the sewer line, the crew spread lime on the affected area. After alleviating the line, the crew walked the waterway and observed approximately 40 feet of gray discoloration. During their time onsite, the crew did not observe any fish kills.

The second was an estimated 900 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on July 27.

The overflow, resulting from grease, occurred at 1920 Barnes Mill Road in Marietta and discharged into a tributary to Sope Creek.
