LADY LAKE, Fla. (CohenConnect) – A man “who appeared to be in distress” told police “his baby’s mother” stabbed him “with an object used for ‘scraping fentanyl,’ which he described as having a point.”

That Florida woman’s arrest report, detailing her latest battery charge, said it happened just after 2 a.m. last Thursday, Aug. 29.

The victim told authorities Angel Marie Velez “had attacked him after a dispute over money.

“He stated that the defendant had taken a $100 bill to break it into smaller denominations, but failed to return the money.

“The victim stated the defendant stabbed him multiple times with the sharp object as he was attempting to leave the residence.

“The victim reported that the defendant had destroyed property within his RV and had injured herself by stepping on broken glass.

“He also stated that the defendant had stolen his phone and refused to allow him to call 911.

“While interviewing the victim,” a sheriff’s deputy wrote, “I observed multiple lacerations on both of his arms as well as his stomach.”

Velez said, “The victim had instructed her to pack her belongings, which she did while the victim continued to argue.

“Subsequently, the victim threw her belongings outside.

“When asked about any physical altercations, the defendant disclosed that the victim had pushed her several times and had smashed their possessions,” but the deputy wouldn’t believe it.

“During the interaction,” the arrest report said, “the defendant was cooperative but appeared to be in distress, repeatedly stating that she had been trying to deescalate the situation with the victim throughout the night.

“The defendant also mentioned a gash on her foot, which she wished to have examined by medical services.

“The defendant’s sequence of the incident continued to change the more I interviewed her,” the deputy wrote. “Based on the evidence at the scene, witness statements, and the lack of physical injuries on the defendant, I determined that the defendant was the primary aggressor.”

Finally, the report noted, a criminal history check on Velez turned up “three prior incidents, which one was a conviction.”

CohenConnect found some earlier arrests, but none for battery.

On the morning of last Oct. 31, the manager of a convenience store told police Velez “asked for a drink,” that arrest report said. “The manager stated that the store would have to charge her for the drink, to which that woman said, ‘I’ll just rob you then.’

“The woman then proceeded to fill a ‘Big Gulp’ cup with a soda from the soda fountain, and left the store without paying.”

Officers found her and claim she “spontaneously uttered that she took the drink and that she was a thief.”

Then, she was searched, and officers reported “a clear bag containing a crystal-like substance was located in the defendant’s front right pocket,” and it tested positive for methamphetamine.

But, Velez also said “she believed that she had a small bag of fentanyl in her bra.

“A search of the defendant’s bra on scene came up with negative results.”

    They should’ve looked more closely.

“While at the jail,” the report continued, “correctional staff discovered a small bag of a white crystal-like substance in the defendant’s bra by her right breast.

“The substance [was] field-tested at the jail and rendered a positive result for fentanyl.”

In February, after three months behind bars, Velez pleaded no contest to charges of petit theft-third or subsequent offense, possession of fentanyl, and possession of drug equipment, and she was sentenced to three years of probation.

She also spent time in state prison twice: 2004-05 for robbery and accessory after the fact, and 2011-12 preposition of a controlled substance.

This time, Velez, 40, was charged with felony domestic battery and violating her probation, which was due to end Feb. 4, 2027.

She has not been released from jail, and the arrest report did not offer details on the baby she reportedly had with the victim.
