WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Colby accountant has been accused of defrauding his clients.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 43-year-old Quintin Flanagin of Colby made his first appearance Wednesday in federal court in Wichita.

Flanagin is charged with the following:

    • Seven counts of wire fraud
    • Four counts of bank fraud
    • Two counts of false statements
    • Six counts of money laundering

The U.S. Attorney says Flanagin, a Certified Public Accountant and part owner of a firm, was hired by the owners of Diamond M. Farms in Thomas County to provide accounting duties for the company. Flanagin managed payroll for the farms and acted as a signatory, giving him full access to their bank accounts.

He is accused of creating a fake business he called Middle Finger Ranch and added the name to his personal bank account. Between December 2021 and August 2022, he allegedly wrote multiple checks and made wire transfers that totaled approximately $409,710 from Diamond M. Farms to Middle Finger Ranch.

In 2021, Flanagin hired a construction company to build a new house for him. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says records show the contractor for the home construction was paid from the Middle Finger Ranch bank account within days of the money being transferred from Diamond M. Farms accounts.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
