Cooler temperatures coming for Ellinwood's 51st After Harvest Festival
What a difference a week makes. Temperatures in Central Kansas soared past 100 degrees from July 12-15. With Ellinwood's 51st After Harvest Festival kicking off Thursday, the mid-summer event will feature highs mostly in the 80s and evening lows in the 60s. AHF Chair Nancy Baird hopes that means bigger crowds for the party of the summer.
Axe-throwing bar Blade & Timber closes in Leawood, reopens further south
A Leawood facility offering axe throwing, cocktails and more has moved further south. Blade & Timber has officially moved out of its Town Center Plaza location, opening a new space a couple of miles south on 135th Street last month. Blade & Timber is now at 4800 W. 135th St.
Retiring Junction City Manager will be recognized
The public retirement reception for Junction City Manager Allen Dinkel is scheduled from 1:30 to 4;30 p.m. Wednesday at the Junction City Municipal Auditorium. Speaking to the city commission Tuesday night Dinkel said, "What makes this community so great for me as a city manager is I worked as a team with some great, important employees."

Bonner Springs takes steps needed for Mattel Park
BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. (KCTV) - Bonner Springs city leaders are one step closer to a Mattel Amusement Park within its city limits. The 7-member Bonner Springs Planning Commission voted unanimously on July 16 to approve the requested amendment to the Comprehensive Plans Future Land Use Map. The request was to revert the parcel in question back to its previous classification of “Mixed-Use” from “Industrial-Use” it was changed to in January/February of 2023.
Bee Jay Defense Falters in Loss to Larks
The Liberal Bee Jay defense committed four errors and allowed six unearned runs in an 8-5 loss to the Hays Larks at Brent Gould Field Tuesday night.
