COLCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) — A Colchester property the city bought for $1 is getting a $1.1 million boost to become a public park.

“When complete, Colchester residents and visitors, including those traveling along the nearby Airline Trail, will be able to enjoy this beautiful spot to relax on a bench, sit by the water, enjoy a picnic, fly a kite or fish in the river below,” First Selectman Bernie Dennler said.

The site of the former Norton Paper Mill on Westchester Road will receive money as part of a $26 million grant that will renovate blighted properties across the state.

When finished, the site will become Norton Park. Construction will start later this year.
