Michigan DNR seeks volunteers for U.P. State Fair experiences
What's happening: One of the biggest annual events in the Upper Peninsula is looking for a helping hand, specifically when it comes to connecting youth with The Great Outdoors. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is requesting volunteers to help with the Pocket Park at the U.P. State Fair, which runs from August 12-18 in Escanaba. Specifically, volunteers will help kids learn various outdoor skills like catch-and-release fishing, learn how to shoot pellet guns or archery, staffing the fire tower and greeting people coming to the Fair.

An audit completed in 2018 revealed a failure to conduct background checks, major delays in abuse investigations, failure to meet with some victims, and a lack of safety plans for identified victims. MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Former Central Michigan pitcher Adam Mrakitsch has signed a free agent contract with the Texas Rangers. Mrakitsch, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound left-hander, was not selected during Major League Baseball's annual draft, which concluded on Tuesday. He signed with the Rangers on Wednesday and is set to report soon to the team's training facility in Surprise, Ariz.
Cramer Named to Academic All-America Team
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan wrestler Alex Cramer has been named to the Academic All-America At-Large Third Team by the College Sports Communicators. Cramer, a redshirt senior from Grayslake, Ill., is a computer science major with a 3.95 grade point average. He is one of 17 student-athletes named to the third team and one of just 47 named to the first, second or third team. The student-athletes represent eight sports and Cramer is one of six wrestlers so honored.

Tip leads to Muskegon man’s arrest for dealing cocaine and fentanyl, troopers say
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — On Sunday, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Traverse City Post received a tip that a suspicious vehicle dropped off a man at an apartment on Glen Drive in Garfield Township. The tipster reported several vehicles and pedestrians visited the apartment, stayed for a very short duration, then left the area. Troopers conducted a rapid investigation were able to obtain enough probable cause to obtain two search warrants for the residence. The search warrant was executed shortly after midnight this morning. Troopers discovered evidence of narcotics trafficking inside. A 30-year-old Muskegon man was arrested on two counts of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and possession with intent to deliver fentanyl. Both are 20-year felonies. More charges are expected to follow.
