Two Coleman women were killed Sunday when a vehicle failed to stop at an intersection and collided with their vehicle, according to the Marinette County Sheriff's Office.

Elysia Kust, 44, and her mother-in-law Mary Anne Kust, 73, were heading east on County B in the Town of Grover shortly after 1 p.m. when they were struck by Scott Mathis, 46, of Pembine, who was traveling south on County W, according to the sheriff's office investigation.

Elysia Kust, who was the driver in her vehicle, was a library paraprofessional with the Coleman School District.

"Both Elysia and Mary Anne were wonderful people," said Pam Berg, the elementary, middle and summer school principal for the district. "They both were just a bright spot in this world, and loved working with kids."

Berg said counselors were available Monday at the school for those who needed their services, and Berg said help will be available on additional days, if needed.

Sheriff Randy Miller said inattentive driving likely was a factor, but the crash remains under investigation. The department did not mention any injuries to Mathis in its press release.

This is the first fatal crash in Marinette County this year.

A service in celebration of their lives will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 917 Church St. in Marinette, according to Elysia's obituary notice and Mary Anne's obituary notice . No visitation will be held prior to the service, but the family will greet friends at a luncheon that will follow in the church Parish Hall.

The service will also be livestreamed on the Hansen-Onion-Martell Facebook page .
