Musical Petting Zoo hits the right notes
Accompanying the noises of summer construction projects at Oak Ridge High School on June 5 was a cacophony of booms, hoots, pings, blares and rat-a-tat-tats. About 50 elementary- and middle school-aged children were welcomed to the high school in El Dorado Hills for a musical petting zoo, where kids got to know trombones, marimbas and many other instruments.
Ducky Derby ready to hit the water
The Gold Discovery Park Association presents the third annual Ducky Derby at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. All proceeds support park projects and programs. There will be a barbecue fundraiser and the Rubber Ducky Races will be held noon and 2 p.m., with a Derby Hat Contest at 1 p.m. There will also be vendors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Labor Coalition Led by Massachusetts, Illinois, and Seattle Urges DHS to Extend Protection for Noncitizen Workers Amid Investigations
To protect noncitizen workers during investigations into labor violations, new measures are being introduced to strengthen their rights, the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, joined by the offices from Illinois and the Seattle Office of Labor Standards, has formed a coalition with 27 other labor enforcement agencies to petition the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Their request is to extend the Deferred Action Program period for these workers from two years to a minimum of four years, according to a press release from the Massachusetts AG's office.
Tracy Police Reportedly Confiscate Nearly 40 Pounds of Suspected Narcotics
Police in Tracy recently arrested two individuals in connection with the alleged discovery of a large amount of narcotics during a vehicle stop. In a press release, police reported that they had stopped a vehicle near 11th Street and Parker Ave. on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 25. A K9 unit brought in for assistance reportedly alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

Firefighters contain 5-acres vegetation fire in North Auburn
Firefighters extinguished a vegetation fire Tuesday afternoon on Sisson Lane, off Lone Star Road and Highway 49, in North Auburn. CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Department reported firefighters were on scene at 5:13 p.m., along with air resources. The fire, named the Sisson Fire, was reported at 2-3 acres with potential structure threat.

Signed into law in 2022, AB 137, included reparations payments, as well as the creation and public display of plaques acknowledging and apologizing for sterilizations at government institutions. The Assemblywoman joined representatives from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) at a private and solemn ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at the California Institution for Women state prison, in Chino, California.
