12 Days Until Purdue Football: Leland Smith
Coming from Fullerton College in California, Leland Smith, may not be the flashiest transfer pickup for Purdue, but he’s an important addition, nonetheless. The Houston native spent his freshman season at the JUCO where he hauled in 26 catches for 655 yards and 9 TDs in 9 games. The biggest of those games was a nuclear performance where he had 9 catches for 212 yards and 3 TDs. Smith was all-conference and has moved up to D1 where he may have a golden opportunity. Purdue has a lot of unproven commodities at WR despite an increased amount of talent. Leland Smith factors into that and at the very least, he can provide depth at a critical position. His big frame also can allow him to contribute on special teams. That may be the only consistent path to seeing the field this season, but getting on that green grass in some way is the goal either way.
