PITTSBURG, KS – After the Colgan girls basketball team would hold its camp on Tuesday afternoon, the Colgan boys basketball team would hold a camp of their own.

2nd-5th graders would be the first to hit the court in what would be an event taking place throughout the day. Lead by head coach Clint Heffern and his players, 60 athletes would sign up. The camp would see many siblings of high school athletes participating as it is also part of a strong tradition in Colgan athletics.

We caught up with coach Heffern and Panthers point guard Klayton Adamson right as the events and drills began.

“We really take pride in working with young athletes, and developing them because we know that is the next generation, and the next team we’ve got. It’s something in the summertime we really try to invest in because we know it’s going to have a big return on it,” said Colgan head basketball coach Clint Heffern.

“We were in their shoes at one point, so it just means a lot to the kids for us to be there and help them,” said junior point guard Klayton Adamson.

The camp would officially start at 1 p.m. for grades 2-5, and grades 6-8 would start at 2:30 p.m. and go to 4 p.m.
