Fourth-Year Texas Longhorns Starter Sustains Injury During Fall Camp

The Texas Longhorns had another injury scare on Saturday. Fourth-year starting center Jake Majors was seen in a boot during the Longhorns' second fall camp scrimmage for what is now characterized as a minor ankle injury.

For the most part, Texas managed to navigate the 2023 offseason with good health. The 2024 offseason hasn't been as kind to the Horns.

Majors joins the growing list of injured Texas players heading into the year. Fortunately for Majors and his team, the setback is not viewed as a "serious injury," according to Texas insider Bobby Burton. Even so, the Longhorns weren't ready to risk further injury.

Earlier in the offseason, one of Texas' two projected primary running backs, Cedric Baxter Jr., went down with a season-ending knee injury . Highly regarded freshman running back Christian Clark also sustained an injury, cutting into Texas' running back depth even more.

The Longhorns' loaded running back room is able to sustain depth losses. 2023 backup running back Jaydon Blue returns after a strong sophomore campaign, with talented players in Tre Wisner and freshman Jerrick Gibson ready to receive carries.

Veteran center Jake Majors could be more difficult to replace, however, given the inexperience behind him at the center position. Presumably, third-year contributor and 2022 starting right guard Cole Hutson could move from guard to replace Majors at center.

Texas will look to have Majors back to full health when it begins its season against the Colorado State Rams on Aug. 31.
