5 Best College Football Picks Against the Spread: Week 0 2024
By Pete Fiutak,

There might be only four games in Week 0 of the college football season, but that's what we have to work with.
Do I deeply love ANY of these five picks? No. But that's no excuse. There's college football being played, and here are five picks to make here.
5 Best College Football Picks Against the Spread: Week 0
5.Florida State vs Georgia Tech
Point Total: 55.5 Pick: Under
Just how angry is Florida State?
The defense might have a whole slew of replacements, and Georgia Tech has a dangerous team with a great quarterback in Haynes King, but can the offense that didn’t score fewer than 20 points last year show up?
Army 57, Delaware State 0. The Hornets lost big last year to the Knights, and had another game against an FBS team and lost - Miami University 62, Delaware State 20
The previous game against an FBS team was a 48-10 loss at Buffalo in 2018, and later lost to Western Michigan 68-0. West Virginia beat Delaware State 59-16 in 2017 - you get the idea.
This is a far better Delaware State team after going 1-10. This is also the coming out party for a Hawaii offense that should go off, even if the last several games against FCS teams have been fights. - Delaware State at Hawaii Game Preview & Prediction
3. Florida State vs Georgia Tech
Line: Florida State -11.5 Pick: Florida State
I’m not in love with this, but I can’t unsee a late score for a Florida State cover.
It’s a new year with different teams, but four of the six Georgia Tech losses last year were by 12 or more.
All offseason I liked Georgia Tech, and it’ll have its moments, but 11.5 isn’t that crazy. Liked Georgia Tech when it was FSU -13, but 11.5 … 34ish-20ish just feels right. - Florida State vs Georgia Tech Game Preview & Prediction
2. Montana State at New Mexico
Line: Montana State -11.5 Pick: New Mexico
I’m the Never Buck History guy.
If something that’s never happened before screws over a pick, so be it.
Montana State has four all-time wins over FBS programs, and the only one that went over 11.5 points was a 35-14 win over Fresno State … in 1978.
New Mexico should be stronger right away under new head coach Bronco Mendenhall. There were a slew of losses through the transfer portal, and this might be a total rebuild, but 11.5 at home is a whole lot to give away to an FCS Team.
It’s not like Nevada got THAT whacked around last year.
It was awful, and it’ll get rolled in this, but the 2-10 Wolf Pack only lost one game by more than 24 points after getting destroyed by USC and Idaho - yes, Idaho - in the first two games of last season.
New season, new coaching staff, home game in Week 0 against a very good SMU - Nevada should be a bit more explosive offensively to keep this from becoming too much of a blowout. - SMU at Nevada Game Preview & Prediction
