Iowa State vs Iowa always takes on a life of its own, and it’s always the same thing. This is going to be close, intense, and fun - in a different sort of way.
The last six meetings have been relatively low scoring, and all six - and ten of the last 12 - were decided by ten points or fewer.
Iowa is coming off a 40-0 laugher against Illinois State, Iowa State rolled through North Dakota 21-3, and now we’re about to get … you know what we’re about to get.

Do you REALLY believe that Iowa has a passing game now?
The Hawkeyes were only up 6-0 on Illinois State at halftime, and then the offense started to work.
There were completed passes, the offense was about more than just about killing time before the punting game could shine, and the Iowa football team scored 34 points in the second half.
But that was against Illinois State.
The Iowa State defense didn’t allow North Dakota to do a thing down the field, it’s swarming enough keep everything in front and force plenty of dinking and dunking, and no, there won’t be a Hawkeye ground attack like there was against the Redbirds.

Why Iowa Will Win
Iowa held on to the ball for almost 35 minutes last week. The offense really did hit a few downfield passes.
There really were points. There really were close to 500 yards of total O. But it was still able to do what it normally does with more great defense, plenty of third down conversions, and total control overall.
North Dakota wasn’t able to do too much against the Iowa State defense, but its offense was always on the field. The Fighting Hawks had the ball for almost 38 minutes, and that should be close to the number Iowa should hit.
If Iowa is controlling the tempo and tenor of the game …

The Iowa defense is still amazing.
The talk might be about Cade McNamara, the great day from the running game, all that offense that looked absolutely normal for an FBS team vs an FCS squad.
But it’s Iowa. The scoring in this will be low, the defense will be great, and it’ll be and eighth win in nine in the series.
