There wasn’t anything to worry about in either of their respective openers.
Kansas ran by Lindenwood 48-3, Illinois dominated Eastern Illinois 45-0, and now we get to see which one is for real.
Kansas gets UNLV six days after this on a Friday night game before the Big 12 season, and Illinois has a decent paycheck date against Central Michigan before going to Nebraska.

The Jayhawk offense didn’t need to extend itself against Lindenwood, but Jalon Daniels was great, the ground attack couldn’t be stopped, and this week it should be quick enough to bother the Illinois defensive front that didn’t do much to get behind the line against EIU.
The pace, the style, and the explosion will make Illinois press a bit on both sides of the ball.
The Illini might want to control the clock and the time of possession battle, and KU won’t care - it’ll do what it does and keep things moving, but …

Defense, ground attack, more defense, toughness, tight battles - that’s been Illinois under Bret Bielema.
But against Eastern Illinois the Illini attack aired it out with Luke Altmyer completing 19-of-24 passes for 213 yards and four scores.
At the very least, the okay Kansas secondary has to worry about Air Illini.
Eastern Illinois isn’t all that great at college football, but for one week the Illini offense showed off the balance it’s going to need all year. It’ll show it all off again.

Who wants to have some FUN!
Kansas will make Illinois crank up the offense, Illinois will be happy to show off its weapons and keep up the pace, and this should be a back-and-forth battle that might just be the most fun game of the weekend.
Expect more from the Illini than it showed in the 34-23 Kansas win in last year’s meeting.
