That’s exactly how it’s supposed to work. New Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby’s offense rolled Eastern Kentucky in a 56-7 win. The attack was well balanced, the team put up 35 first half points, and everything looked great. Now comes a test.
That’s also exactly how it’s supposed to work. Wyoming is supposed to be okay, and Arizona State ripped through it with shocking ease, going up 48-0 before finally giving up some late points. Win this, and the national media attention will kick in.
For both, this might mean everything when it comes to getting to six wins to go bowling … or the winner might just be that good.

No one’s confusing Wyoming with Texas offensively, but it’s supposed to be a whole lot better than 118 yards of total offense. Arizona State generated decent pressure, but the real key was its ability to hold up on third downs, rested because the offense dominated the time of possession battle.
Mississippi State might have been great against Eastern Kentucky, but this thing still hasn’t been stress tested against a decent defense, but …
Why Mississippi State Will Win
The Jeff Lebby offense worked because it’s just that good and he’s just that strong of a young head coach.
Blake Shapen is a veteran who can handle the road environment without a problem, the running game didn’t count on all the stars - everyone got a chance to eat - and Arizona State has to prove it can hold up against a real attack.
The Sun Devils might have been brilliant against the Cowboys, but they didn’t deal with a passing game yet.
Mississippi State takes everything up to a faster, more dangerous level, and Arizona State literally has to prove it can be up to speed.

Big 12 after dark is just fine, too.
This will be worth staying up for until early Sunday morning east coast time as both offenses will be strong, both defenses will have their moments of momentum swings the it seems like they have things figured out, and in the end, the home side will be just a little sharper.
The Sun Devils will have the ball for well over 35 minutes, and that will matter at around 1 am Mississippi State time.
