Paul Finebaum Blasts Deion Sanders After Blowout Loss Against Nebraska

On Tuesday morning's airing of ESPN's "First Take," Paul Finebaum made his opinion on Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders clear following Saturday's blowout loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The Buffaloes suffered a humiliating 28-10 loss to the Cornhuskers in front of just under 89,000 fans in Lincoln, Nebraska, that saw quarterback Shedeur Sanders exit the game with 3:47 left in the fourth quarter.

Colorado's offense accrued 260 total yards with two turnovers, including an interception returned for a touchdown. The Buffs' run game was almost non-existent, as 244 yards came from the air. While the score appears close, it is deceiving as Nebraska's inconsistent offensive play in the second half prevented them from tacking on more points.

When asked if Shedeur Sanders' postgame comments surrounding the team's offensive struggles was a bad look, Finebaum understood the frustration from the Colorado quarterback but also stated that the same excuse has been given before.

"Yeah, I mean, listen, I understand the frustration, but what he said there really doesn't make a lot of sense to me," Finebaum answered. "I mean, he's getting sacked. It's the same story."

Finebaum continued by stating the bigger problem for Colorado is the lack of progression from head coach Deion Sanders and even added that he doesn't believe this year's team is better than the 2023 squad.

"And I think the bigger story, rather than coming down on Shedeur, is his father," Finebaum added.

"What kind of program is Deion Sanders running at Colorado? He promised all the changes this year. He got mad at everyone who dared to criticize. And it's the same team. They're not even as good as they were a year ago. I mean, poor Shedeur is getting killed. You can't get sacked that many times. He won't make it to midseason, let alone at the end. And that score was so deceiving. I watched that game, as I know you guys did. And they were destroyed in the first half. I mean, that game was over. It was 28-0. And Colorado made it not even respectable, but they just didn't make it as bad as it really was. And every game now is going to be a battle for them."

Finebaum finished by again inserting his belief that Deion Sanders will attempt to leave Colorado once both his sons and Travis Hunter depart from the program at the end of the season.

"And I just sense that Deion Sanders and this whole thing is going to come apart at some point," Finebaum concluded. "And without Shedeur, without Travis, he's going to bail out. I mean, I cannot imagine, as much as you guys love Deion Sanders, that he's going to be able to put up with this humiliation week after week. And I bet he's already looking for a way out."

Time will tell if Colorado can improve their offensive efficiency and quarterback protection and whether Finebaum's assertion on Coach Prime will come to fruition at season's end.

With the Buffs reeling from Saturday's loss, the program will look to get back on track in Week 3 against their in-state rival Colorado State Rams. That Week 3 matchup will occur on Sept. 14 from Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado, at 7:30 p.m. ET and will air on CBS.
