Northern Illinois Rubs Salt Into Notre Dame's Wounds After Week 2 Upset

Following a monumental Week 2 upset of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Northern Illinois Huskies rubbed salt in the Irish's wounds by unveiling their updated " boneyard " display with Notre Dame front and center.

The display began in 1983, when the program dubbed marquee victories over major college football programs as "boneyard wins," referencing the canine-like antics of Huskies. For each victory, Northern Illinois attaches chains to both ends of a large rawhide bone displaying the date, location and final score before the program's logo it defeated.

Since the tradition began, the program has now accumulated 19 total "boneyard wins," which includes victories over the Alabama Crimson Tide in '03, Iowa Hawkeyes in '13, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers in '18.

To commemorate the Huskies' first victory over an opponent ranked within the top 10 of the AP Top 25, the program included the 16-14 triumph over Notre Dame by prominently positioning its bone squarely in the middle of the display.

In addition to the historic upset win over the Irish, the Huskies vaulted themselves into the AP Top 25 list for Week 3 at the No. 25 position. It is the first time the program has been included in the AP list since 2013.

The No. 25-ranked Huskies do not play during Week 3 as the program rests during a bye week. The program will look to maintain its momentum during a Week 4 clash with the Buffalo Bulls from Huskie Stadium on Sept. 21 at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on ESPN+.
