Texas vs UTSA Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

    By Pete Fiutak,

Texas did what it was supposed to do.

Is it really good enough to be in the national championship mix? It certainly looked and played the part in the decisive win over Michigan 31-12.

Now comes the exhale with this game, then ULM, and then starts SEC life against Mississippi State.

UTSA is trying to find its footing after losing most of the stars from last year. It had to work to get by Kennesaw State, got blasted by Texas State 49-10, and it needs to get through this before things get easier against Houston Christian.

    Why UTSA Will Win

There should be just enough pressure into the backfield to keep Quinn Ewers from being comfortable.

The Roadunners haven’t been sharp offensively, but the defensive front should be okay on third downs to at least get a few licks on the Texas star quarterback. But the only way this works or stays close is if the UTSA passing game is good.

Owen McCown was great against Kennesaw State, Eddie Lee Marburger gave it a shot for a stretch against Texas State, and no matter who it is, UTSA has to get to at least 300 yards. But …

    Why Texas Will Win

    Texas is too sharp.

It’s not above taking a little time off with a few freebies after going to Michigan, but the team has the balance and offense to put this away fast.

The Longhorns are scoring every time they get a chance on a decent drive, there’s just one turnover so far, and there hasn’t been a lick of drama. Whether its Ewers or Arch Manning, the offense will hit 70% of its passes, the running game has been okay - not great, but okay - and …

Texas vs UTSA: Who Will Win

    The train will keep rolling.

UTSA will get a good drive in early, but that will be nothing more than false hope. Texas will wake up and decide to play, and then the scoring run will come to put this away.

This game won’t be anything amazing, but it’ll be another good muscle-flexing performance for the Longhorns.
