Army vs Temple Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

The American Athletic Conference season rolls on with Army and its 3-0 start trying to keep the momentum going with a relatively easy slate through October.

Being Army, you know what you’re getting, but Temple has finally perked up and should make this a bit of a battle.

The Owls lost to Navy a few weeks ago when they couldn’t stop the run, but after an 0-3 start they played well in a 45-29 win over Utah State.

Three of the next four games are on the road, so if they want to get this season going, they need to pull this off.

    Why Army Will Win

Can Temple stop the run? Sort of.

There are problems with the Owls, but the run defense overall hasn’t been totally horrible. However, Navy ran 51 times for almost 300 yards and our scores in the 38-11 win, and this bunch hasn’t stopped anyone cold yet.

Army is doing Army things. It doesn’t turn the ball over, it’s No. 2 in the nation in time of possession - behind Oregon State - and that’s all because it’s amazing on third downs.

As is Army and its style doesn’t allow for a ton of tackles for loss, and the Temple defensive front doesn’t do anything to get into the backfield.

    Why Temple Will Win

As long as Temple doesn’t give the ball away in bunches, good things happen.

The Owls got their first win of the season over Utah State with their best day of the year running and second best throwing - the midrange passing attack hit - but the big key is to just not screw up.

They turned it over six times against Oklahoma, three times against Navy, two times against Coastal Carolina, and zero times in the victory.

Army is decent at forcing takeaways, but it doesn’t generate a ton of pressure, there are few tackles for loss, and …

Army vs Temple: Who Will Win

Can Temple dictate the tempo at all?

Army will have the ball for over 35 minutes, but Temple has to find a way to do a lot of bending without breaking. The problem will be getting that Owl defense off the field.

The Knights won’t totally gouge the Owls, but they’ll run for 300 yards and control the clock from the start.
