Ohio State vs Michigan State Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

    By Pete Fiutak,

It’s been a nice start so far for Michigan State under Jonathan Smith, but now it all gets real.

The Spartans came up with a wonderful win at Maryland, lost a tough battle at Boston College last week, and next week has to go to Oregon, with Iowa and at Michigan to follow.

Ohio State didn’t cover the spread against Marshall. That’s about the only thing wrong with a 3-0 start with the team going through the motions in three light practices.

It gets Iowa next and goes to Oregon, but getting by Michigan State will be hard enough.

    Why Ohio State Will Win

Michigan State QB Aidan Chiles will turn the ball over.

You’re getting the bad with the good with him. He’s young, has tremendous talent, and can move enough and bomb away to get the O going.

Eventually he’ll have the at-bats to see everything better, but until then he’ll give up at least two interceptions and have huge blips in consistency.

No one’s beating Ohio State without being perfect.

Ohio State has yet to play a Power Four program, but it has its three warm-up games to get ready for this. The passing game has its timing down, the running game is getting more dangerous and …

Chiles just isn’t accurate enough. However …

    Why Michigan State Will Win

Chiles has the ability to take over and get the offense moving.

He’ll misfire too often, but he’ll also have stretches when he challenges the Ohio State far more than it’s had to handle so far this season.

No, Michigan State isn’t winning the national title, but this is a major step up in weight class for the Buckeyes.

For the first time, OSU QB Will Howard will have to deal with pressure from a Spartan pass rush that’s been a killer, and the defense has held up well even with battles against Kansas and Bowling Green.

Ohio State vs Michigan State: Who Will Win

Michigan State will hold up for a bit, but the dam will eventually break.

To go Prime, oh it’s comin’, but the Spartans aren’t there yet. They’ll come up with something special in a game or two this season, but Ohio State is just too complete.

The Buckeyes are at a whole other level. Call this a teachable moment in the rebuild under Jonathan Smith.
