Maryland vs Indiana Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

    By Pete Fiutak,

Sort of under the radar, this might be the most interesting Big Ten game of the weekend.

Who is this Indiana Hoosier team?

It hasn’t played a team that that will likely go bowling - including UCLA and FIU - but who cares?

Indiana is 4-0 in college football, and it has a whole slew of winnable games for a while before dealing with Michigan and at Ohio State.

Maryland lost a tough game against Michigan State a few weeks ago, but bounced back with a good performance in a win at Virginia and beat Villanova to follow. There’s a week off after this before facing Northwestern.

    Why Maryland Will Win

It’s Indiana. For years nothing was taken for granted, but again, it’s not like the Hoosiers have rolled through a who’s who of college football over the first three weeks.

Maryland should be 4-0. It buckled late in the loss to Michigan State, but other than that the passing game has been great, the ground attack good enough, and the turnover margin among the nation’s best.

There weren’t any takeaways in the win over Villanova, but the Terps managed to come up with ten in the first three games and gave it up just once before last week.

Indiana has yet to screw up. Yeah, this actually is a good team, but it helps that it has yet to deal with any adversity whatsoever. Come up with two takeaways, and Maryland might crack the code. But …

    Why Indiana Will Win

There’s a reason Indiana isn’t screwing up. The coaching staff is that good, veteran transfer QB Kurtis Rourke is that good, and Indiana football is … good?

It’s amazing how simple this can be at times.

Block, tackle, don’t make a ton of errors, repeat.

Rourke is connecting on just about everything, the rushing attack has hit 222 yards or more against everyone but UCLA, and the pass rush has been terrific.

Maryland lost to Michigan State because it couldn’t run and couldn’t stop the Spartan passing game often enough. So …

Maryland vs Indiana: Who Will Win

Maryland is a huge step up for the Hoosiers, but the run defense has been a brick wall - remember, this is James Madison of last year in the Big Ten - and to keep going with this, Rourke has been wonderful.

Indiana has been a cute story so far. It’s now about to be a thing.
