Miami vs Virginia Tech Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

Miami has become America’s darling, but without really doing much of anything yet - opening it up on Florida and USF isn’t anything too special.
Beating Virginia Tech is a must, and then it’s on to road trips against Cal and Louisville for two very, very dangerous tests.
The Hokies are sputtering. With losses in winnable games to Vanderbilt and Rutgers, they desperately need a win with their own trip to the Bay Area to deal with Stanford next week.
The Hokies aren’t bad at stopping teams from throwing.
The problems have been against the run, and Rutgers threw way too easily in key moments last week, but for the most part the pass D has been able to hold up.
It allowed two touchdown passes in the overtime loss to Vanderbilt to start the season, and that’s been about it.
As long as the defense is keeping Cam Ward from turning midrange passes into long plays, it’ll be doing its job. However …
Why Miami Will Win
It’s the other side of the ball that’s the concern.
Miami’s offense is getting all of the love thanks to Ward and the high-powered offense, but it’s the defense that should be able to take over the game.
The Hurricanes are great on third downs offensively, and they’re doing a fantastic job of getting the defense off the field with a great pass rush.
Miami leads the nation averaging four sacks per game - the production has been steady - and it should hit that without a problem against a leaky Virginia Tech offensive front that gives up way too many plays behind the line.
Miami vs Virginia Tech: Who Will Win
How bad will the weather will be? The hurricane problems will create a little bit of wind, but it shouldn’t be too awful out by game time.
It’s not like Virginia Tech is playing poorly, but it just can’t seem to come up with huge plays in big moments. Rutgers and Vanderbilt were able to connect on too many plays, and that will be the issue here, too.
Virginia Tech is 0-2 when allowing teams to get to 40% on third down conversions, and Miami will keep connecting on plays to keep things moving.
