Iowa State isn’t getting a whole lot of credit for a solid 4-0 start - it beat Iowa on a late field goal and the other three games were layups, including the 20-0 Big 12 opening win over Houston.
Three of the next four games are in Ames, and there’s a whole lot of nasty in the end against Utah and Kansas State, but getting by Baylor is good for now.
The Bears are effectively out of the Big 12 title chase after a 0-3 start, and now they have to deal with four of the next six games on the road.
Baylor vs Iowa State Preview
Baylor vs Iowa State How to Watch Date: Saturday, October 5, 2024 Game Time: 7:30 pm ET Venue: Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, IA How to Watch: FOX Iowa State (4-0), Baylor (2-3)
One pass against Colorado, a few key plays against BYU - they could very, very easily be 4-1. There needs to be a little cleaning up more than a true overhaul.
Chill on the turnovers - they aren’t bad, but this team can’t afford to lose any of them. The penalties are always ill-timed, and it might just take one positive drive or two to change things around.
The Iowa State offense won’t run away and hide with this. Baylor has to be as sharp as the Cyclones, be dead even in turnovers and penalties, and win the third down battle.
Baylor’s defense is better on third downs than Iowa State’s is, but …
Why Iowa State Will Win
Yeah, don’t make a ton of mistakes - easier said than done.
Iowa State has been close to flawless with just three turnovers, the nation’s most efficient pass defense, and with next to nothing happening on the penalty front.
It has no problems playing the war of attrition game. Win the field position battle, take advantage of every opportunity, and just be patient. Make Baylor be one-dimensional and all should be fine.
Baylor vs Iowa State: Who Will Win
It’ll be a tad shocking if this is any sort of scoring fest.
Neither team grinds it out and works the clock, but they’ll both deal with their respective paces.
Baylor’s defense will be strong throughout, but Iowa State’s secondary will clamp down on the deep shots and make this more of a midrange shot fight.
And yeah, Baylor will make a few more mistakes than the Cyclones will.
