New Mexico State vs Jacksonville State Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

    By Pete Fiutak,

Can Jacksonville State get this whole thing going again?

The Gamecocks looked like their 2023 explosive selves at times in the 63-23 win at Kennesaw State last week, and now - on a two game winning streak - they need this, a win over Middle Tennessee next, and a 3-0 Conference USA start before dealing with a trip to Liberty.

New Mexico State at least go the O going in a 50-40 loss to New Mexico. It’s still searching for its first win over an FBS team this season.

Why New Mexico State Will Win

That’s the New Mexico State running game we were hoping would show up.

Yes, it’s been a rough 1-4 start. No, this isn’t the same team it was when SEC folk hero Diego Pavia was under center for the Aggies last year. Yes, this could be when the team starts making some noise.

It lost to Liberty, at Fresno State, and at Sam Houston - and it pushed Liberty in a 30-24 battle. New Mexico’s defense is awful, and the Aggies took off for 285 yards and four touchdowns averaging eight yards per pop last week.

Control the clock - the Gamecocks will only have the ball for about 25 minutes - keep on running, and …

    Why Jacksonville State Will Win

The New Mexico State defense is in trouble.

It’s the worst in the nation at generating tackles for loss, the run defense has been terrible, and if that wasn’t bad enough, the passing attack is the least efficient in the nation. Everyone’s getting fat on the NMSU D, and Jacksonville State will be next.

It heated up for close to 700 rushing yards and almost 1,110 total yards of offense against Southern Miss and Kennesaw State over the last two games.

Rich Rodriguez’s bunch will get off the bus with 500 yards.

New Mexico State vs Jacksonville State: Who Will Win

    This should be fun.

Lots of points, lots of up-and-down big plays, lots and lots of haymakers. Jacksonville State will at least come up with a stop or two. New Mexico State will gets its shots in, but it’ll start stalling in the second half.

The writer who wrote the third paragraph needs to proofread it first. Pitiful.
