South Alabama has had some fun for a while - hanging 87 points on Northwestern State and 48 against Appalachian State - but stalled against LSU and Arkansas State.

It's been a bit of a rough ride so far, but the Jaguars under first year head coach Major Applewhite have been far better than Troy.

The Trojans beat Florida A&M, and that's it. The defense hasn't been totally miserable, but the offense can't get going. This starts a run of four road games in the next five.

Okay, Troy passing game. This is when you have to get it all going.

The Trojans have been able to hang around games for a while with a decent offense through the air no matter who’s handling the work. Three Trojan quarterbacks have combined to hit 64% with a little bit of a downfield passing game.

Why South Alabama Will Win

Troy can’t score.

It’s been a fight to get past 17 points with too many empty trips despite doing a great job on third downs and keeping the turnovers to a minimum.

With that said, the leaky line allows way too many sacks and tackles for loss, and South Alabama will bring the pressure.

On the flip side, the Trojan defense doesn’t generate a pass rush, there aren’t enough takeaways, and South Alabama has the pop to get moving in a variety of ways.

The defense might give up yards and points in bunches, the run D hasn’t been too much of a problem. Troy isn’t generating any sort of push up front, but …
