SMU vs Stanford Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

At some point the world has to start taking this SMU team seriously.
It might have lost in a tough home fight to BYU over a month ago, but as it turns out, that's a lot more acceptable a defeat than it seemed at the time.
The win over Louisville two weeks ago made it all real. Now the 5-1 Mustangs have a real shot to be in the mix for ACC Championship with no Clemson or Miami to deal with.
On the flip side, Stanford is trying to find its way in the new ACC world. It stunned Syracuse, but lost three straight - the Notre Dame thumping doesn't really count in the ACC, though. Three of the next four games are at home, though, starting here.

Why SMU Will Win
So what is this team doing that's going so right? The offense continues to be almost perfectly balances, and it's turning out to be adaptable.
The running game took over TCU, the passing attack got the job done against Louisville, and everything worked against Florida State. It also helps that the defense is taking the ball away in bunches.
There isn't too much coming from the SMU pass rush.
Stanford's struggles are on the offensive front that's had a few nice moments, but gives up way, way too many plays behind the line. It's not like the Cardinal get a break here against the Mustangs, but for the line might not be a total liability in this.
There aren't any penalties or giant mistakes to worry about - okay, maybe a few turnovers are coming - and the team should own the time of possession battle. But more than anything else ...
SMU vs Stanford: Who Will Win
Stanford is overdue for one of its out-of-the-blue strong performances.
It had one in the win over Syracuse, it pulled off something amazing last year at Colorado and held down Washington State in a win, and it's been pretty much rim-rocked by everyone else over the last year and a half.
A rested SMU will get out of this with more firepower and that offensive balance, but Stanford won't get destroyed.
