Texas Tech vs Baylor Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

    By Pete Fiutak,

Is the world ready for Texas Tech to be a player in the Big 12 race and be deep in the hunt for a College Football Playoff?

It beat Arizona at Arizona, and it took down Arizona State, and win a firefight against a good Cincinnati team. Three of the next four games are on the road including at Iowa State and Oklahoma State.

    Baylor is better than 2-4.

Yeah, yeah, you are what your record says it is, but it took a miraculous play to lose to Colorado and it battled BYU hard. But the 43-21 loss to Iowa State can't be when the wheels of the 2024 season come off.

The next two games are at home against Oklahoma State and TCU, but the Bears need to pull off a win here to stop the slide.

    Why Baylor Will Win

    The defense is still battling.

It might have had a problem with Iowa State, but it's still doing a great job at holding up on third downs, the run defense was great before last week's loss, in this it has to hold up and let the passing game do its thing.

Baylor threw eight touchdown passes over the last three games and bombed away for close to 600 yards over the last two.

The Texas Tech pass defense is among the worst in the nation giving up over 300 yards per game, but ...

    Why Texas Tech Will Win

Baylor's passing game isn't accurate enough.

This will likely be a firefight with plenty of big plays through the air, and neither side can misfire. Baylor is 0-4 when it doesn't complete at least 60% of its passes, and 2-0 when if gets there or better.

This is both a positive and a knock at the same time - the Red Raiders give up a ton of big plays, but the D allowed only one FBS team (Cincinnati) to get to 60%.

Texas Tech vs Baylor: Who Will Win

Baylor is way overdue for the hard work to pay off with something positive, but it won't have enough offense to come up with the big W.

Texas Tech will give up yards, but it'll also hold the ball a bit longer and hang on when it absolutely has come up with stops when it absolutely has to in the second half.
