Watch: Amateur sinks 132-yard eagle on first career hole at British Open

Royal Troon Golf Club is playing brutally difficult on Thursday due to windy, rainy conditions in Scotland, but no one told amateur golfer Jaime Montojo. The 19-year-old Spaniard split the fairway with his opening tee shot and holed out for an eagle on the par-4 first hole — the first hole in his British Open career.

His jubilant reaction says it all.

Montojo, a rising junior at Texas A&M University, is playing in his first career major championship. He qualified for the 152nd British Open with a T2 finish at a qualifying event at Royal Cinque Ports in early July — with his mother serving as his caddie.

The Madrid, Spain native ranked third on the Texas A&M men's golf team in scoring average (71.31) last year, and he won the Aggie Invitational for his first collegiate victory. A few months later, he's holing out from 132 yards in his first-ever start at a major.

It took Montojo only two shots to leap to second place on the British Open leaderboard at 2-under par. It's unlikely he'll stay there for the rest of the week, but what a memory that will be for the talented youngster.
