Driver shot during road rage incident involving 6 bikers on Tennessee highway, cops say

A motorist driving on an east Tennessee highway with his daughter was shot during a road rage encounter with six motorcyclists, according to investigators.

The driver was hospitalized and is expected to recover, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

A biker suspected of being the shooter was arrested south of the state line in Catoosa County, Georgia, officials said.

The shooting took place around 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21, near Collegedale, about a 150-mile drive southeast from Nashville.

“Deputies were notified of a person who had been shot during a possible road rage incident and had driven himself to a nearby Tri-Community Fire Hall for assistance. The victim was found by fire department personnel to have a gunshot wound to the left shoulder,” the sheriff’s office said.

“The victim and his daughter were traveling northbound on Ooltewah-Ringgold Road when they encountered a group of six motorcycles,” according to the sheriff’s office. “... A road rage incident occurred between the motorcyclists and the victim, resulting in one of the motorcyclists firing at the victim’s vehicle near East Hamilton High School.”

A description of the suspect lead to the arrest of Michael Holloway in Georgia on Sunday, July 21, officials said. Holloway, 47, was found to be in possession of a .380 caliber handgun, officials said.

“An arrest warrant has been issued for Holloway by Hamilton County Sessions Court for aggravated assault,” the sheriff’s office said.

Details of what prompted the dispute on two-lane Ooltewah-Ringgold Road have not been released. Maps show the stretch of state highway near the high school is surrounded by single-family home subdivisions.
