The Klingman family continues to expand its impact in the coaching field.

Colin Klingman was named May 1 as the new men’s head soccer coach at Ursinus College in Collegeville.

The Abington Heights graduate joins his brother Justin as current National College Athletic Association Division III head coaches. Colin and Justin are the sons of former University of Scranton men’s soccer coach Steve Klingman and Abington Heights girls basketball coach Deanna Klingman, who also coached basketball at Scranton where she was a national Player of the Year and national champion.

Ursinus Director of Athletics Erin Stroble announced the hiring of Colin Klingman, a 2020 graduate of the school. Klingman coached as an assistant at Division I Binghamton University last season, training goalkeepers, along with assisting in recruiting and operations duties.

“Team Ursinus is excited to welcome one of our own back to head our men’s soccer program,” Stroble said in a press release announcing the hiring. “Coach Colin Klingman demonstrates the best of what Ursinus is all about. He is passionate about supporting our student-athletes, willing work hard and hungry to win.”

Prior to Binghamton, Klingman was a graduate assistant on the Catholic University men’s soccer staff while earning his Master of Science Degree in Management with a concentration in Management and Leadership. He was on the staff in 2021 when Catholic won the Landmark Championship and in 2022 when the Cardinals reached the NCAA Sweet 16.

Klingman started 60 games on defense in a four-year career at Ursinus where he was a captain for three seasons. He began coaching at Ursinus, assisting head coach Keith Cappo during the canceled 2020 season.

“I am beyond excited and extremely grateful to become the next head men’s soccer coach at Ursinus,” Klingman said. “I want to thank Director of Athletics Erin Stroble, and the entire search committee for putting their trust in me and giving me an opportunity to be the next leader of the program.

“I look forward to teaching, mentoring and positively impacting our student-athletes in all facets of their life.”

In addition to his work at the collegiate level, Klingman has served as both a head and assistant coach for various youth soccer programs in both the Collegeville and Washington D.C. area. Klingman spent a year as the Head coach of the U-14 team and assistant coach of the U-15 team for West-Mont United before serving as the head coach for CCL U23 Pro team, and U18 Red boys head coach for D.C. Soccer Club for two years.

Justin Klingman recently completed his first season as head men’s basketball coach at Goucher College. He had previously also coached at Ursinus as a men’s basketball assistant for four seasons.
