A mother and a 1-year-old are dead after being pulled from a North Carolina creek, officials said.

Around 6:30 p.m. on July 20, first responders were called to Wilson Creek in Collettsville for reports of a drowning, according to a news release from Caldwell County Emergency Services.

Three people were pulled from the water with the help of high angle rope systems, according to officials.

Once the three people were out of the water, first responders attempted to resuscitate two of the people, who were unresponsive.

“Unfortunately, a 1-year-old child and mother succumbed to their injuries on scene,” officials said.

Officials did not provide information on the condition of the third person.

Officials have not released the names of the mother and child.

Collettsville is about an 80-mile drive northwest of Charlotte.
