Multiple injuries reported in two-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Collinsville

Multiple people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Interstate 55 near Collinsville .

The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on I-55 at milepost 8, according to Illinois State Police. The agency released preliminary information about its investigation into the crash on Saturday.

State troopers determined a GMC truck traveling in the left lane struck the rear of a passenger car , but they don’t know why. The crash remained under investigation on Saturday evening.

The truck went into the center median, and the passenger car went into the wood line to the right of the road.

The passenger car’s driver and two passengers were transported to a hospital with injuries. The passengers’ injuries were serious, according to Illinois State Police. The occupants of the truck weren’t injured.

The names of those involved in the crash weren’t released.
