East Tennessee students rally against state book bans
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Students are upset about changes coming to school libraries this fall. Back in 2022, Governor Bill Lee signed "The Age Appropriate Materials Act" into law. But this year, lawmakers added even more specific restrictions. The changes to that law require schools to pull books with content deemed "sexual" or "excessively violent."

Bicyclist dies after being struck by hit-and-run driver
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - Murfreesboro Police have identified the man they believe was driving a vehicle that struck and killed a bicyclist on Thursday night. Police believe Isaiah Isom, 41, of Murfreesboro, was driving a 2011 Buick Enclave that struck the bicyclist around 5:30 p.m. on South Rutherford Boulevard near Walmart. Police said Isom initially fled the scene.

Memphis man sentenced to 210 years in prison for armed business robberies
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Memphis man was sentenced to 210 years in prison for a string of business robberies, according to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ). The DOJ said 43-year-old Marchello Moore escaped from a halfway house and went on a robbery spree in March 2022. In February 2024, he was convicted of eight counts of robbery, eight counts of the use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and one count of attempted robbery. He previously pled guilty to escaping from federal custody from the halfway house where he had been serving a federal sentence for business and bank robberies committed in 2014.
