COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Fire Chief T. Wayne Hoover of Colonial Heights Fire, EMS and Emergency Management is retiring after over 30 years of service.

Hoover announced his retirement in a June 28 Facebook post in which he reflected on his career with the city, where he served for 31 years.

“As I look back on my time with the CHFD, I am filled with immense pride for all that we have accomplished together,” Hoover wrote. “From battling out-of-control fires, leading our citizens through a pandemic, to providing lifesaving medical care, we have stood shoulder to shoulder, united in our commitment to protecting and serving those in need. Each call we answered, each life we touched, reaffirmed the importance of the work we do and the difference we can make when we come together as a team.”
