Ballston Lake man arrested at site on Avis Drive

LATHAM – A UPS Driver returning his vehicle to the business was arrested for DWI after a manager allegedly saw an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

According to reports, on Tuesday, June 11 at 9:33 p.m. Colonie police responded to Avis drive to investigate and found the driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old Ballston Lake man, showing signs of intoxication. The man was given and failed field sobriety tests, tested positive for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device and was taken into custody.

He was charged with DWI and released on an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on June 24.

Larceny and warrant

COLONIE – A man who is serving a prison sentence for grand theft auto and burglary was brought to Colonie Town Court on an outstanding warrant and faces new charges from a 2023 incident at Lowes on Central Avenue.

DOCCS officials brought Daniel Hammon, 37, of New Lebanon, on Wednesday, June 5 to face charges he didn’t appear in court in February and also charged him with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, for a July 12, 2023 incident at the store.

He was arraigned by Judge Andrew Sommers and returned back to prison.

Criminal mischief

TROY – A 26-year-old Troy man was arrested at his home on Thursday, June 6 in connection with a break in at a Central Avenue, Colonie laundromat.

Jordan Nichols was charged with criminal mischief, a felony, and petit larceny and possession of burglar tools in the May 13 incident. Alleged serial burglar Michael Monge, 40, of Troy was also named in the incident. See the story on Monge in this issue.

Nichols was arraigned by Colonie Judge Andrew Sommers.

Criminal Contempt

COLONIE – A Cohoes man turned himself in on Thursday, June 6 on charges that he violated an order of protection two days earlier at the Schuyler Flatts Park in Watervliet.

Jonathan LaChappelle, 36, was charged with criminal contempt – first degree- prior conviction and aggravated family offense, both felonies.

He was arraigned by Colonie Town Judge Andrew Sommers.

DWAI-Drugs

LOUDONVILLE – Colonie police stopped a 2024 black Nissan Altima on Albany Shaker Road on Thursday, June 6 and found a Clifton Park man who was allegedly impaired by drugs.

According to reports, officers observed the 33-year old driver to have slurred speech, droopy eyelids and poor coordination. He was given and failed field sobriety tests and taken into custody.

At the police station he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert and charged with DWAI- Drugs.

The man was released with an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on June 17.

Aggravated DWI on Central Ave

COLONIE – A Colonie man was involved in a personal injury vehicle crash on Thursday, June 6 at approximately 9:02 p.m. on Central Avenue.

According to reports, upon interviewing the driver, a 55-year-old man, officers observed him to have glassy and watery eyes, slurred speech, poor motor coordination and had an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. He was given and failed field sobriety tests, tested positive for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device and taken into custody.

At the police station he was charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, and ticketed for failing to yield on a left turn.

The man was released on an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on June 17.

Man lying in road, had warrant

COLONIE – Colonie police responded to Wolf Road on Friday, June 7 at 1:31 a.m. for a man lying in the road, by a person with him concerned for his safety. When officers arrived Matthew Sand, 29, of Clifton Park was found to be intoxicated and in the road.

After an investigation, Sand was found to have an active bench warrant from Colonie for not showing up for court in May and also had an active full-stay away order from the person who made the phone call.

Due to his level of intoxication and injuries from the fall in the street, Sand was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was given an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on June 12.

Third time, six months

COLONIE – For the third time in six months a Watervliet man was back in Colonie Town Court to answer charges for not showing up for court.

On Saturday, June 8 at 9:57 p.m. officers checked the file of Gregory Pankow, 39, and found he had multiple outstanding warrants for adjacent agencies and also two from Colonie.

He previously was arrested for outstanding warrants in Colonie in January and February. This time, he was sent to the Albany County jail as a pre-arraignment detainee.

Bail jumping

COLONIE – A 30-year-old Troy woman was arrested in East Greenbush on Tuesday, June 11 at 3:45 p.m. and was found to have not showed up for court in Colonie in March.

Julissa Pitt was charged with bail jumping, a misdemeanor, and processed on a warrant for failure to appear in court.

She was sent to the Albany County jail as a pre-arraignment detainee.

Burglary at Macy’s

COLONIE – Colonie police responded to Macy’s at Colonie Center for a report of a larceny at the store on Sunday, June 9 at 8:03 p.m.

Marcel Vrede, 61, of Cohoes, was charged with burglary, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He was sent to the Albany County jail as a pre-arraignment detainee and was arraigned the next day.

Fight and warrant

COLONIE – Colonie police responded to the Best Value Inn on Central Avenue on Tuesday, June 11 at 4:30 a.m. for a report of a fight.

According to reports, one of the participants, Brianna Jones, 25, of Albany had an outstanding warrant from the Town of Colonie for not appearing in court in May.

She was processed and arraigned by Colonie Town Judge Norman Massry.

Outside warrant

LATHAM – A 63-year-old Albany man was a passenger in a car that was stopped on Loudon Road on Tuesday, June 11 and found to be wanted.

A check of Salvatore Hardy showed that he had an outstanding warrant from the Albany County Sheriff’s office.

He was transported to meet deputies from that department.

Larceny and warrant

COLONIE – A local man, with a history of larcenies in Colonie, was arrested at Kohl’s on Central Avenue for allegedly stealing from the store and he had another warrant for not showing up for court.

According to reports, Colonie police responded to the store on Tuesday, June 11 at 5:44 p.m. for an active larceny and arrested Justin Flood, 42, of Colonie for petit larceny and possession of burglar tools, both misdemeanors.

Flood was arrested by Colonie police on January 14 for taking items from BJ’s Wholesale Club and charged with petit larceny at that time. Police also found he was wanted for not showing up to court for an incident at Macy’s at Colonie on November 1.

He was arrested again in Rensselaer County and was at the Rensselaer County jail on April 8 and was brought to Colonie for a bench warrant. Flood failed to appear in Colonie Town Court for the January date and was arraigned and sent back to the Rensselaer County jail.

This time, he was sent to the Albany County jail as a pre-arraignment detainee to be arraigned the next morning.
