HILDALE, Utah ( ABC4 ) — The outdoor watering ban was lifted in the Hildale, Colorado City area on Wednesday nearly a week after its largest drinking water well stopped working.

According to Hildale City, the Academy Well pump and motor failed on July 11 placing the Utah-Arizona border towns under strict restrictions in order to conserve drinking water.

The pump and motor were replaced and a water sample was tested before the outdoor water restriction was lifted. The city says the water system is currently “being flushed and sanitized and the water storage is recovering.”

While the outdoor watering ban has been lifted, there are still Stage 3 water restrictions in place. These include no outside watering between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., no using water to clean off streets and driveways, and no use of water for fountains or other “ornamental purposes.”

In addition to outdoor watering, the Stage 3 restrictions also require that restaurants only serve water upon request of the customer.

“We appreciate the overwhelming supportive response and compliance from residents who looked after each other during this problem,” city officials said.

Hildale is located in southern Utah just minutes from the Utah-Arizona border. Colorado City is directly across the border located on the Arizona side of state lines.
