Stepping into Buckhorn Exchange is like taking a walk through history, with its walls adorned with lifelike animal specimens and an ambiance that speaks volumes of its 130-year legacy as Colorado's first restaurant. The menu is a thrilling adventure for any food lover, featuring exotic game like buffalo, elk, alligator, and quail. I had the pleasure of trying the fried alligator tail and buffalo meat sausage for appetizers, followed by succulent lamb chops and baby pork ribs. While the buffalo meat was an acquired taste for me, the rest of the meal was absolutely delightful. The apple cobbler for dessert was a sweet ending to a memorable meal. The plush seating and exceptional service only added to the experience, making it a perfect spot for a special outing with family or a significant other. Despite the premium feel of the place, it's the unique culinary experience that truly makes Buckhorn Exchange a gem worth visiting. The blend of historical ambiance and distinctive flavors makes every meal here not just a feast for the taste buds but also a moment to remember.

My husband and I visited because of the history and reviews. The steak was a step above mediocre for the price. In addition, we were seated upstairs and the venue is lovely except for dead animals on every single wall space. I knew that going in, but if the steak were outstanding, I might have overlooked that. All that said, there are WAY better steak houses in ColorDo than this. The question is do you want to pay for history or a good steak?
