A bearded dragon, cow, and wolf are all running for mayor of this Colorado town

    2024-03-24

(Colorado) It's an election year, and some political races are wilder than others.

In a small town on the north slope of Pikes Peak, a bearded dragon, a handful of dogs, a few cats, a cow, a horse, and a wolf are all campaigning for mayor.

Every two years, the town of Divide elects a new mayor in a hotly contested race. A political background is not required, but being a "party" animal is a prerequisite.

Voters can learn about all thirteen 2024 candidates on their profile page, including fun facts, campaign slogans, and platform issues.

For a small $2 donation, anyone can vote in this election regardless of party affiliation or voter registration. Plus, you can vote as many times as you want!

The polls are open through April 2nd, and the money raised goes to the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter.

During the last election, the shelter raised an impressive $41,000 from over 19,000 charitable voters. Clyde, a sweet donkey, was the victor in 2022 with 5,635 votes.

Mayor Clyde is heading out to pasture after serving an illustrious two-year term with his esteemed canine vice mayors, Cinna and Maizey Little Wolf. Who will take his place?

Unlike some political races, the candidates are all great choices and will serve their constituents well.

    Cast your vote now!
