Pueblo's favorite burger has a new star

(Pueblo, CO) Pueblo is known for many things: steel, heroes, chile, and the Slopper.

The Slopper is an open-faced burger smothered in home-grown green chili and topped with cheese and onions. The hearty dish originated in Pueblo and has worldwide fans.

Locals vote yearly for their favorite chili-smothered burger, and the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce tallies the votes to create an official self-guided Slopper Tour.

In 2024, a new favorite was crowned - Cactus Flower.

Cactus Flower, a Mexican restaurant and cantina, has served the Pueblo community for over thirty years. Their award-winning Slopper comes in three chili options - mild, hot, or a mix of the two.

Choose your heat, grab a fork and knife, and dig into Pueblo's signature dish. It is a filling entree, so pace yourself!

As you leave Cactus Flower, take a moment to admire the traveling chili trophy, proudly displayed at the hostess station for at least one year.

The Pueblo Slopper received national attention in 2010 when Gray's Coors Tavern and Sunset Inn were featured on the Travel Channel's "Food Wars" (Season 1, Episode 11). Both restaurants are still in the top ten more than a decade later.
