Cripple Creek hosts the festive donkey release on Monday

    2024-05-26

(Colorado) It's time for the highly anticipated return of the donkeys to Cripple Creek!

On Monday, May 27th, the beloved herd moves from their winter pasture to their summer feeding ground in the town of Cripple Creek.

The donkeys roam freely around the town until mid-October, munching on apples, carrots, and other donkey treats available at local businesses.

The donkey release will begin at 11:00 a.m. on C Street and Thurlow Avenue.

"President Teddy Roosevelt" will give a welcome address as the guests of honor trot into town.

At noon, there will be an old-fashioned picnic at City Park (128 East Bennett Avenue). The town will provide the music (a barbershop quartet and brass band), and guests should provide their sack lunch.

A hot dog and kettle corn vendor will be on-site for additional snacks.

The arrival of the donkeys is a fun way to kick off the summer.

    I'll see you there!
