Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president, traveled to Denver for a private fundraiser Wednesday as part of his first stretch traveling solo for the Harris-Walz campaign.

Colorado Democrats including Gov. Jared Polis, U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, Secretary of State Jena Griswold, and former U.S. Reps. Joe Salazar and Ed Perlmutter attended the private reception hosted by Tim Gill, a Colorado-based Democratic donor and LGBTQ advocate.

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, announced Walz as her running mate last week in a move meant to boost the Democratic ticket’s appeal in key Midwestern states and with blue-collar voters.

Tickets for the fundraiser ranged from $1,000 to $50,000 with all money going to the Harris Victory Fund, according to a pool report. Over 150 people attended the fundraiser at the Phipps Mansion in Denver, which is owned by Gill.

Polis introduced Walz and touted his achievements as governor of Minnesota. Walz has signed legislation protecting abortion rights, providing free lunch to school children, legalizing marijuana and requiring background checks for private gun sales in Minnesota, among other policies .

“That’s what Tim Walz has been all about in Minnesota,” Polis said. “That’s what Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are going to bring to our country, so that states like Colorado, Minnesota and so many others have a partner in the White House, rather than an adversary in the White House.”

Polis and Walz were both elected governors of their states in 2018. They both previously served in Congress alongside Perlmutter and Salazar.

Walz talked about speaking in front of large crowds and using a teleprompter for the first time last week at a Philadelphia rally alongside Harris, according to the pool report. He and Polis also joked about a comment from former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, that falsely claimed artificial intelligence inflated the size of a crowd in an image from a Harris campaign event.

“I assure you, in Detroit, that wasn’t AI, and I’ll also assure you that every one of the ballots they’re going to cast will not be AI,” Walz said.

He urged supporters at the event to keep working through the 83 days until the election and “give what you can then give a little more.” Walz talked about addressing Democratic priorities including gun safety and climate change.

Walz kicked off his campaign trip Tuesday in California. After the fundraiser in Denver, Walz traveled to Boston and will speak in Rhode Island and New York later this week.
