    Southern Colorado law enforcement agencies honor fallen officers

    (SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Monday, May 13 was the start of National Police Week and several law enforcement agencies from Southern Colorado were in Washington D.C. to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice with a candlelight vigil.

    At the 36th Annual Candlelight Vigil, 282 fallen officers were added to the memorial including the names of fallen Sgt. Michael Moran of the Cortez Police Department and K9 Officer Julian Becerra of the Fountain Police Department.

    The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) also shared a video of its deputies and other law enforcement agencies saluting the fallen Colorado officers.

    Meanwhile, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) also shared photos on social media of its officers and deputies honoring the fallen at the national memorial.

    Police Week started in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week on which May 15 falls, as National Police Week.

    On Friday morning, May 17 law enforcement will gather at the Pikes Peak Regional Peace Officers Memorial to honor the fallen in Memorial Park.
