    PPUW CEO announces retirement after ten-year tenure

    (COLORADO SPRINGS) — Pikes Peak United Way (PPUW) announced on Friday, May 31 that president and CEO Cindy Aubrey will retire this year.

    Aubrey began her career at PPUW in February 2015 and became CEO in 2017, after a ten-year tenure she will retire once a new CEO is chosen by the board.

    “Cindy Aubrey has been an exceptional CEO, and her contributions to Pikes Peak United Way and the broader community are commendable,” said President of the Board of Directors at Pikes Peak United Way, Dan Nordberg. “Under her guidance, the organization has achieved remarkable milestones and made a lasting impact on countless lives. We are grateful for her dedication, vision, and tireless efforts in advancing our mission.”

    According to PPUW since her leadership in 2017, Aubrey has:

    • Brought to life the Family Success Center in southeast Colorado Springs. The center provides food, healthcare, education, after-school sports, financial literacy, and more.
    • Secured and distributed millions of dollars to nonprofits in the community.
    • Implementation of Care and Share food distribution program at Mitchell High School.
    • Constructed and led a disaster response plan with partner agencies that was active during the three-year pandemic.
    • Recognized United Way’s impact and history, celebrating PPUW’s 100th anniversary.
    • Developed collaborations with the city of Colorado Springs, El Paso County, El Paso County Health, Colorado Springs Utilities, UCCS, the Pikes Peak Office of Emergency Management, and dozens of nonprofits throughout El Paso County.
    • Established a group of community leaders to serve on the Board of Directors, and an active public policy team that holds public debates and forums for the voters of El Paso County.

    During her tenure, Aubrey was honored with the Colorado Coaches for Charity MVP Award in 2021, named Business Leader of the Year in 2022 by the Southern Colorado Women’s Chamber, was a finalist for the Athena Award given by the Colorado Springs Chamber, and a Colorado Springs Business Journalism Woman of Influence.

    According to PPUW, Aubrey was regularly recognized for leading PPUW with expanded programs to best serve the local community.

    “I feel truly blessed and honored to have been given the opportunity to lead Pikes Peak United Way. From the amazing staff, and board, to the extremely generous donors and volunteers, this has been a life-changing experience,” Aubrey remarked.

    As for the future, Aubrey plans to spend more time with her new granddaughter when she leaves PPUW.

    Pikes Peak United Way Board of Directors has launched a search and selection committee to replace Aubrey.
