UPDATE: Manitou Fire on Pikes Peak contained at one acre

UPDATE: SUNDAY 6/2/2024 10:02 p.m.

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to The Pike and San Isabel National Forest Service, as of 4:45 p.m., the fire on Pikes Peak, named the Manitou Fire, is contained at one acre in size.

The fire is located 4.5 miles northwest of Manitou Springs, near the Manitou Reservoir, and was caused by lightning.

US Forest Service (USFS) and cooperating agency resources responded, including one helicopter. No structures were threatened.

USFS said crews will return to the area Monday, June 3, in the morning to continue their efforts to control the fire. The helicopter will be available for crews again on Monday.

Smoke at the base of Pikes Peak is visible from Colorado Springs on Sunday, June 2. The Colorado Springs Fire Department reports that they are aware of the situation, but the US Forest Service (USFS) is on the scene.

CSFD reported a little after 2 p.m. that they are aware of the fire, which is located on USFS land, and that the USFS is on the scene. CSFD is not responding at this time.
