(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Pioneer’s Museum (CSPM) is inviting the community to come out and celebrate its grand reopening with a day of family-fun packed activities.

After a year of HVAC upgrades and building renovations, the museum is set to reopen on Saturday, July 13 to reveal its exciting new exhibits. The celebration will include crafts, activities, live music, food trucks, a petting zoo, and more.

The celebration begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m., with plenty of fun activities for the whole family as well as educational demonstrations and learning opportunities, including a straw rocket building class with the Pikes Peak Library District, fishing and camping instruction from Bass Pro Shops, lawn games with CSU Pueblo, and more.

Kids can also take learning into their own hands with the new hands-on children’s gallery called Camping in the Rockies.

“After this extensive and transformative capital project, we are thrilled to welcome back the community to their local history museum,” said Matt Mayberry, CSPM Director. “We are looking forward to showcasing and celebrating an updated visitor experience at the CSPM.”

In addition to the grand reopening festivities, visitors can peek inside at all the new exhibits:

    • “50% of the Story: Women Expressing Creativity” — transforms the CSPM collection to more accurately reflect the complexity, diversity, and uniqueness of the Pikes Peak region. Using historic artwork and artifacts, alongside contemporary pieces, the 50% exhibit creates a beautiful conversation between women across time, demonstrating how they’ve always told their stories through art and creativity.
    • “Camping in the Rockies” — A fun play space where kids 2-8 can practice camping in “the great outdoors” of Colorado.
    • “Accessorize It!” — Drawing on the vast collections of the CSPM, this open storage display shares a wide variety of interesting objects. From shoes and hats to jewelry and pipes, there’s something for everyone in this eclectic exhibit!
    • “Visible Collections Workspace” — See for yourself how objects are cataloged and prepared for exhibition in the CSPM’s newly renovated collections workspace.

The celebration is free and open to the public.
