America's wildest auto race is back, Sunday June 23, in Colorado.

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC), the second-oldest motorsports race in America, will take place this weekend.

The race, also known as The Race to the Clouds, is an invitational automobile hill climb to the summit of Pikes Peak.

Founded in 1916 by Spencer Penrose (the founder of The Broadmoor Hotel, Pikes Peak Highway and El Pomar Foundation), the race takes place on a 12.42-mile (19.99 km) public toll-road boasting 156 turns, while competitors climb 4,720 feet (1,440 m) from the 9,390-foot (2,862 m) start line at mile marker 7 on the Pikes Peak Highway to the 14,115-foot (4,300 m) finish at the mountain’s summit.

The current record is 7:57.148 and was set by Romain Dumas in the all-electric Volkswagen in 2018.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a Colorado summer staple. I know people from all over the west who come to watch.

Gates open at 2:30 a.m. on race day.

Make sure you stand in a safe place if you plan to watch!
