Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) southeast region recently shared an X post explaining the importance of not "rescuing" baby animals that may appear to be abandoned.

The X post shows a video of a fawn alone in Colorado Springs, explaining that it looks like it could be abandoned.

Another video shows that the fawn's mother was behind a tree and that the fawn was not orphaned. CPW explains that if someone had picked it up, it would have orphaned. According to CPW, a doe will sometimes leave her fawn for hours to go feed. A fawn will lay motionless until its mother gets back.

CPW continues to say that fawns can hide in plain sight, as they have natural camouflage and no scent, and that if you pick it up you'll transfer your scent to it. Fawns will also sometimes run around looking lost, but according to CPW, "you can bet mom is nearby."
