(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Record-breaking heat on Friday, July 12, will lead into a very warm and overall pleasant evening as we head into the weekend. If you’re looking for a fun way to spend the night, Music in the Park just might be for you.

The event kicks off Friday at 6 p.m. and is expected to last until 8 p.m. at Panorama Park in Colorado Springs. The night will consist of music, pie eating contests, food trucks, giveaways and a wide variety of family-friendly activities. July is designated as national Parks & Recreation month.

New this year, the park will be recieving a special “Starburst” award from the Colorado Lottery. Representatives with Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services said this award is given to parks that utilize funds in ‘creative and innovative’ ways. Colorado Lottery is expected to be in attendance to hand out the award. In total, there are 13 recipients of the Starburst award across Colorado.

If you are unable to make it this evening, there is another Music in the Park scheduled for the end of July. “Chill Dou” will be appearing in Pinon Valley Park on July 26 along with another great lineup of family-friendly activities.
