    COS prepares to celebrate the 2024 Paris Olympics with Downtown Summer Fest

    (COLORADO SPRINGS) — Celebrate the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Downtown Summer Fest on Saturday, July 27.

    The festival kicks off Saturday at 11 a.m. at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum, Park Union Bridge located at 200 South Sierra Madre.

    Attendees can expect live music, sports, cultural demonstrations, and over 40 partners and vendors on site. Guests can also enjoy the thrill of watching the Olympics on the big screen in the Museum Plaza. The event will conclude at 4 p.m.

    When looking for parking, the city lists downtown parking garages and street meters as options. Free parking is also available in the parking lot across from the U.S. Olympic Sports House located at 101 Cimino Drive.

    The city also encourages individuals to bike to the Downtown Summer Fest; it is free to park bikes at the valet located on the northeast side of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic main parking.

    Events start earlier in the day with the Rocky Mountain 5K Race at 9:30 a.m. Individuals interested in participating in the 5K or the Sasquatch Shuffle Kids 1K can register up until before the race on July 27.

    The award ceremony for the race will be held at 10 a.m. in Vendor Village, division winners will be awarded shortly after.

    On Friday morning, July 26, the city organized and invited the public to the Honk and Wave Event ahead of the Summer Fest.

    “We are so proud of our Team USA athletes who have worked incredibly hard to qualify for Paris and the hundreds of coaches and staff members who are supporting them,” said Mayor Yemi Mobolade. “The honk and wave events are a fun and safe way for our community to come together and put our support for Team USA on full display. May these athletes feel the love and support of the entire city as they strive to reach their goals and aspirations as they compete against the best athletes in the world.”

    The Honk and Wave encouraged participants to bring USA flags, signs, and other patriotic gear to wave in celebration and build anticipation for the Games.
