(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is sending resources to help fight the Quarry Fire in Jefferson County.

“It is hot windy and dry just like it has been for the last couple of days,” said Lt. Aaron Holslag of CSFD. “Looking at the forecast moving forward, and the fire behavior in the last couple of days, it is definitely going to increase that fire behavior.”

The Quarry Fire ignited late Tuesday, July 30, and has since grown to 200 acres with 0% containment, threatening hundreds of homes. 75 firefighters are on the ground and multiple support aircraft have been ordered.

“We are leaving our district with the potential of a fire happening down here, but we have sufficient resources down here. We have very talented people on this job, who are very good at their jobs. But at the same time, it’s also really important that we get out and support our partners in other communities and make sure they are getting the support they need,” said Lt. Holslag. “Resources nationally for wildland fire response are extremely limited right now, so it’s extremely important that we get out and provide what we can to help our fellow folks in Colorado.”

As of 11:30 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said no structures have been damaged but resources are spread thin due to multiple fires burning along the front range.

CSFD will be adding resources to battle the fire, which has caused the evacuation of nearly 600 homes in Jefferson County.
